The enchanting play of light is what differentiates the moonstone from its semi-precious gemstone counterparts. Ancient civilizations believed that they could detect the moonstone in various phases of the moon.

Because it has a moderate hardness, moonstone can dent or chip if it is exposed to harsh blows or rough surfaces. As such, it should be stored separately from other gemstones. Also avoid cleaning moonstone with steam or ultrasonic cleansers.
Avoid vigorous polishing of your gold-filled jewelry so as not to destroy the gold coating, and never expose it to moisture. Keeping it in a zip-lock bag will prevent moisture and humidity from attacking it.
