In ancient times, the earth was thought to be embedded in an enormous blue sapphire. This perception stemmed from the blue firmament that overhung the earth which was not understood by ancient civilizations. Dating back centuries, the Mongolian nomads could very well have been one of these peoples. Perhaps that is why they refer to their religion of Shamanism as the big “Blue Sky.”
From the deep blue of a twilight sky to the periwinkle of a sunny summer day, sapphires come in a full range of blues. But while blue is the most common coloration for this gemstone, yellow, pink, orange and purple sapphires are also found. Sapphire is also the official birthstone of September.
This Royal Sapphire Necklace measured approximately 18 inches and is secured with a metal/silver clasp.
