Wide black pupils and blood red nostrils and lips explode from tranquil blues and calming greens in this oil canvas painting by Haitian artist Levoy Exil. A defining feature of Exil’s artwork is his intertwined figures, which make a totem-pole-like appearance in this compelling artwork, with one stacked on top of the other. Aptly named “Haunting Eyes,” the viewer who gazes into this captivating piece of art will not soon forget the pleading orbs and orifices that stare back at him or her. Unframed, this striking piece of art measures 12” by 32”.

Visitors to the graveyard claim to have seen ghostly apparitions, or Bakas, floating there. According to legend, Bakas are members of a secret Haitian society who in their earthly bodies vow to return from the grave upon their death. It’s these haunting spirits that are recreated in Blue Gobi’s Levoy Exil’s “Haunting Eyes” oil canvas painting. An original member of the Saint Soleil school, Exil was encouraged to practice his art from a very young age.
