The long-lived perennial flower, alstroemeria or lily of the Incas, grows throughout South America including in artisan Martha Lopez’s homeland Colombia. This flower’s delicate petals are inspiration behind this necklace and earrings set’s carvings.
The 17-inch long cord of this necklace is fabricated of lush velvet suede lace. An oval Totumo seed hangs from this triple-strand cord. Totumo seed obelisks dangle 2.5 inches from 950 silver posts in this set’s earrings. Tufts of floral petals are etched into the surface of the seeds to give it a blooming lily effect.

A South American genus of about 50 species of flowering plants, the lily of the Incas uniquely twists from its base so that what appears to be the upper leaf surface is in fact the lower leaf surface.
Once sun-dried, the totumo fruit is split open and its seeds are culled. The multitude of shapes and sizes these seeds come in raises endless artistic possibilities. They’re then sanded, polished and manipulated in some fashion, such as carved, to render a unique design.
This necklace is approximately 17 inches and secures with a silver claps. The necklace hangs approximately 2.5 inches from the lobe.

The natural fibers in this necklace and earrings set’s totumo seeds require special attention. This jewelry set should be stored in a cool, dry place and should never be immersed in water. Apply all liquid cosmetics prior to wearing and allow them to dry first before putting on this necklace and earrings set.
The velvet suede cord should be cared for as any fine leather: 1) cleaning with a cleanser that will preserve its natural oils; 2) conditioning to keep it supple and 3) protecting it with a moisture barrier.
Silver 950 should be stored in an airtight container with a soft lining. Cleaning with soap and water and buffing with a soft cloth will keep your silver 950 shiny as new. Avoid exposure of your silver 950 to abrasive cleansers and bleach, which may cause discoloration.
