This signed original Haitian painting by Marc-Emile Placide (a.k.a. MILO) is done in acrylic on canvas. It romantically combines soft mauves, periwinkle blues and tantalizing teals with lacy doilies, hearts, curlicues and diamonds to playfully tease the eye. Painted in 2004, “Coiffeuse d’Ursule” exemplifies MILO’s return to the figurative artistic genre, leaving much interpretation open to the individual viewer. This unframed acrylic canvas measures 12” by 16”.

The
French Creole word “coiffeuse” means “dressing table” in English. In Creole
voodoo, Ursule was the daughter of Erzulie, the spiritual principle of desire
and fulfillment. Laden with lacy doilies, hearts and other charming elements,
the dressing table that centerpieces “Coiffeuse d’Ursule” brings these romantic
desires to the forefront and showcases artist MILO’s thoughts concerning
folkloric roots.

Because
the canvas on which this piece of art has been painted is of a high-quality
construction, the color should remain robust and last for years to come. To maintain its pristine condition, keep the canvas covered as much
as possible. This will prevent layers of dust, grime and finger grease from
building up. Keep your acrylic canvas out of direct sunlight, as natural rays
can accelerate fading and will change the color of the paint pigment. Also,
avoid handling the painting any more than is necessary. To prevent cracking,
never roll or varnish your canvas. If your painting gets dirty, brush it to
remove any loose dirt. If that doesn’t do the trick, wash it with clean water
but don’t saturate the paint or canvas, as doing so can
cause shrinking.
