Mainly mined in East Africa, India and Sri Lanka, rhodolite garnets are a mixed crystal of almandine and pyrope. Their velvety red color is often mixed with violet or raspberry undertones. The garnet is the accepted birthstone for the month of January.
Rubies, blue sapphires, zircons and garnets are all found abundantly in Thailand, making gemstones the countries second biggest export line. In the Hill Tribes of Thailand these gemstones are often combined with silver to craft truly unique jewelry creations. Hill Tribe peoples migrated over 100 years ago from the southern part of China into Thailand, making their homes in the highlands of Northern Thailand. Comprising of seven major tribes, Karen, Hmong, Yao, Lisu, Lahu, Lawa and Akha, each has its own distinct culture, religion, language, art, textile, and jewelry.

Garnets can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft brush but they should be rinsed well. Exposure to harsh temperatures, chemicals and sharp blows should be avoided.
Silver should be stored in an airtight container with a soft lining. Cleaning with soap and water and buffing with a soft cloth will keep your silver shiny as new. Avoid exposure of your silver jewelry to abrasive cleansers and bleach, which may cause discoloration.
