In Nepal, at sunrise hot-air balloon rises gently over the country’s red-tiled houses, temples and stupas to drift weightlessly over green terraced fields. That breathtaking freedom is recreated in this Twisted Labradorite and Garnet Necklace. The double teardrop design of this handcrafted necklace is redolent of a hot-air balloon. The two ample-sized teardrops are set with marbled labradorites between which is sandwiched a cherry-red faceted garnet. Breathtaking labradorite beads thread the 17-inch hand-twisted silver chain of this Michelle Winston necklace.
The classic birthstone of January, garnets are a much-loved gemstone. The traditional colors of the garnet, red and green, are the most highly esteemed, but the gemstone also comes in all the fine hues in between these two colors. Some of the rarer varieties of garnets include star garnets and garnets whose color shifts, depending on whether they are viewed in natural daylight or under artificial lighting.
At first glance, the labradorite may appear to be a dull, unremarkable stone. But viewed from the right angle, it casts a colorful shiller that teases the eye. This fascinating mineral exhibits a unique beauty that is natural and charming. The glowing surface of the labradorite playfully toys with light, producing a quality known as labradorescence across cleavage planes and in sliced sections. The stone typically displays intense colors ranging from blues and violets to greens, yellows and oranges. In rare cases, it may exhibit all of these colors simultaneously.

All gemstones, including labradorites and garnets, should be wiped clean with a soft cloth to avoid scratching their surface. Wash the stones with warm soapy water, gently brush them with a toothbrush and then wipe them dry.
Silver jewelry should be stored in an airtight container with a soft lining. Cleaning with soap and water and buffing with a soft cloth will keep your silver shiny as new. Avoid exposure of your silver jewelry to abrasive cleansers and bleach, which may cause discoloration.
