Like a melting icicle, this Icy Moonstone and Peridot Necklace drips down the neck in crystalline iridescence. The 34-inch neck chain is threaded with free-style peridot beads for a glowing golden-green effect around the neck and draping down the midriff. Two rainbow moonstones, one round the other teardrop shaped, dangle from a silver keyring. As the moonstones catch the light, they set a pastel spectrum of colors to dance. This Icy Moonstone and Peridot Necklace was handcrafted by designer Michelle Winston.

The enchanting play of light is what differentiates the moonstone from its semi-precious gemstone counterparts. Indeed, the name “moonstone” derives from the mysterious shimmer the gemstone casts as it is viewed from different angles. In the jewelry industry, this iridescent sheen is known as adularescence. Ancient civilizations believed that they could detect the moonstone in various phases of the moon.
The earliest known peridots were used in jewelry dating back to the 2nd century B.C. Then, peridots were extracted from a small volcanic island in the Red Sea. Today’s most prolific peridot deposits are located in the Kashmir region.
This Icy Moonstone and Peridot Necklace measured approximately 34 inches and hangs long near the belly.

All gemstones, including peridots and moonstones, should be wiped clean with a soft cloth to avoid scratching their surface. Wash the stones with warm soapy water, gently brush them with a toothbrush and then wipe them dry.
Silver jewelry should be stored in an airtight container with a soft lining. Cleaning with soap and water and buffing with a soft cloth will keep your silver shiny as new. Avoid exposure of your silver jewelry to abrasive cleansers and bleach, which may cause discoloration.
