Laura Hernandez

Laura Victoria Hernandez Vargas was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1966.  Like many artisans, she was attracted to arts and crafts from early childhood.  She started making different types of artwork as a young girl and was introduced to jewelry making in her early adult life.  As she fine tunes her craft and hobby, Laura has found a tremendous pleasure in creating artistic jewelry that brings beauty and elegance to the world.  Unfortunately in 2004, through unforeseen circumstances, she had become the sole provider for her family of five with no clear roadmap of how to accomplish it. Luckily, through an encouraging and supportive neighbor who fell in love with Laura’s beautiful designs, Laura started to build her business in jewelry design and craft.   Now four years later, Laura’s work enables her to support her family and in turn Laura finds happiness and satisfaction in creating unique pieces of art.  Her designs of jewelry and accessories are constructed mostly of native and some imported materials: semiprecious stones, pearls and crystals. Necklaces are often made of materials such as copper, aluminum and silver.  As an environmental advocate, Laura also creates jewelry with native Colombian seeds such as “tagua”and “covalonga”.    It is Laura’s mission to make all her pieces exude excellence in quality and design.  It is Laura’s ultimate dream that her jewelry becomes an ambassador to the world sharing the essence of her beautiful homeland, Colombia.
