Grassroots is an NGO organization in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia that is sponsored by
XacBank. Grassroots was formed to assist the nomadic artisans of to grow and market their products which in turn allows the
artisans to support themselves and their families. Services offered by
Grassroots include aiding in general business development, increasing
productivity, effectively promoting products, improving networking
amongst the artisans, providing quality training, and providing a store
for the sale of handmade goods. Master artists, artisans and tailors
are given a means to market their unique, traditional and contemporary
clothes, fashion shoes, leather goods and home décor items to a broad
range of individuals. Most importantly, Grassroots believes that
microbusiness is a powerful tool to fight poverty. One such example is
a XacBank client, Mr. D. Davaamagsar. He started his business in 2003
making leather goods, bags and shoes together with his wife at home. In
2004 he started selling their products through the Grassroots shop.
With the help of Grassroots, his income increased dramatically. Today
he has expanded his business to employ 4 workers, has a permanent
income and soundness of mind that he is able to provide for his family
with his art.
